Subject: rod boyce new board
mitchell,
all the best for 2008 & i hope you & your family enjoyed a merry christmas.
Mate that board is dynamite. i have had it in 10ft to 4 ft surf over the past 2 - 3 weeks, once the wind ( 35-45 knots ) pissed off. got best surf off old womans island once wind went to zip, then e/ne.
even walking down to the beach from the carpark, for the 1.6km paddle out or coming in, people, surfers & non surfers commented on what a great looking surfboard the stealth was.
my mates, over a few beers, asked how i would best describe the new board. my reply was ( and they like i ride 7'6" - 9' 6" + guns ), it is equal to the best HP boards i have ridden, & then add a huge X- factor on top, with way more speed to burn. i think that the tail, rails, channels & plane line are just so unique & in front of anything on the market. i have an 8ft firewire which is very good, but not in the same class & your stealth.
best summary is that it looks like a hot date, goes off like my favourite old girlfriend & has speed to burn !
on neither the 10 footers or four footers, did i experience any rail drag or dig in, and i surfed 3/4 high tide dropping to low tide & out the other side to mid tide, riding long hollow sections & then fattish sections to get to reform ( especially before it gets to mid-low tide ), you could just hit the bottom , shoot up or better said be propelled to the top, hit the lip with so much speed that the rail & board weight allowed you to drop back down nearly sideways & then crank off the bottom again. i never got caught being too far inside, as so much speed there. again waiting for the tide to hit mid to low, sections of the wave near the end were a tad fat, which brought in the old round house cutback, and the stealth just cut through like butter, no drag or dig ins whatsoever, be it big or little surf. i reckon 4 ft is the minimum size for this kind of board to do it justice, and there is definitely no wave upsize restriction. will be great for indo or other reef / island breaks.
also went good on biggish, sucky / barrelly beachies, however a tad long for super sucky beachies with extra late take offs ! got to keep the board in one piece, so now i take out my 7footers or 8ft fire wire for rough beachies ).
another bit of feedback mitchell is that normally i take 20-30 minutes to paddle out to the island ( covers no wind & current, to the very opposite ), on both big & smaller days, i chopped off 5-7 minutes each way, going across fresh & coming back stuffed.
that technically means that this board provides me with 20-25 % more paddling power, and you could feel it just stroking into the waves.
again i had it out in all sorts of conditions, smooth to heavy chop & wind & same time results re paddling, a good selling point to older surfers, 20-25 % in anything is good. ) in normal surfing it is hard to judge how much better the stealth is to paddle, but with the paddle to the island, you have fixed distance, to & from & tested / time measured in varied conditions with same results re % time saved. a big thing for aging surfers, who want extra paddle power, to get up early to use the extra speed & flow....all up , absolutely stoked. i have been riding since i was 10 yrs old & will be 57yrs young next month, and this board is the best ever. i am feeling & i think riding like i did ( NEARLY ) in my peak in my late twenties & thirties.
what is a bonus is as i said before, the increase in paddle power: as when you get over fifity, stamina for long paddles out , long sessions surfing, and a prick of a paddle ( lactic acid build up ) back, make for many an excuse to not go out to the island, and just surf shit on the beach.
i cant wait to order my next outer island board, just thinking about what length will complement my 8'6".. was thinking about 7'6" flex tail, mitchell any thoughts your side ?
anyway enough who hah, just thanks heaps for a great looking, performing, ultimate STEALTH, slice & dice weapon !!
thanks & cheers!

| Subject: stealth |
Hi Mitchell,
Took stealth out for yesterday morning, consistent 4 to 5 footers with easily 6 foot+ sets at green hills ( cronulla) , most of them closing out but got worked and had some fun.Stealth FLYIES>>>>>>>>>>> it is fuckin unreal. This is the best longboard i have ever ridden in my life. On your website you said this board rides like a ferrari, thats an understatement, its rides like a Formula 1.
Taking big drops on the sets and stealth was making them, quick snap bottom turns and fly fly fly down the line, then the waves would close out on top of me, and i would get worked, this was the norm of about 6 to 8 waves. So the conditions were not ideal, but it was great to test the board out in some fast powerful waves.
It was very crowded every man and his dog was out there, i was getting droped in by short boarders but stealth would hit turbo and see you later eat my spray was the norm. They then just kept there distance from me. It great to know you can sit out there go for a wave and out accelerate anything out there, what a feeling

 |
I felt the flex nearly every wave, especially when you snap it out of the bottom turn that quick turbo acceleration must be the flex snaping back and the concaves coming into affect, the board kind of shudders as it accelerates just like a turbo car, and if you back foot it, put your back foot where the rubber meets the glass on the deck and pump it like the short boarders pump there boards, it does the shudder thing and bang off you go. An unreal sensation that i have never ever before experienced and this has added a totaly new dimension to my surfing.
Need some better waves as the tide was high and it was quite full and mostly closing out so need some longer rides to get a better feel for carving the thing. But this thing likes big waves no problem, and its strong, got a good 6 foot close out all on top of me and stealth, like a barrel, and i thought Iam gone here, i heard a big thunder crash and i thought this is snap board material but stealth came out no problem, they are strong. Also no deck dents so far so my deck is holding up well.
Had the board in smaller surf say 2 footers and it performs perfectly glides like a dream does everything well, but yesterday in the bigger stuff and powerfull fast waves it came into its own. I really look forward to paddling out and wondering what surprises STEALTH III has install for me.
Let you know some more when i further tune the board in and get my head around it need some more time on it.
Thanks heaps Mitchell this is an outstanding board, hats off to you, words cannot explain the sensation that it brings.
Will be ordering another board from you shortly would like to get a Gun so will keep you informed when I am ready.
best regards

HI Mtchell,
Been surfing consistent 4 to 5 footers all week on stealth, and the board has exceded all my expectations, Iam totally hooked on the flex tails they are the future of board designs, kind of makes all other designs obsolete. The board just rips in any type of wave, but i found it really likes fast sucky waves, it just takes off and flies, the speed the stealth generates is amazing, your triple turbo concave bottom shape is way ahead of anything out there, its a great design.
Mate stealth goes great in small and large surf it performs in anything. Had a great session this morning 4 foot bliss at wanda with 5 foot sneekers, getting used to the speed of the board, i noticed you have to speed everything up alittle as the board works fast, got to be right on it, small quick adjustments. Iam not used to the speed iam used to slowing everything down in surfing logs this is the opposite especially in the cronulla fast waves we have been having all week. Got some great rides, got my first ever noseride on stealth this morning right into shore.
We are riding the future of board design , everything out there is old technology, obsolete boards, they may work but flex is 10 steps ahead, I have noticed iam faster than anything out there, i can out accelerate, out turn, glide further out than all the boards. Its especially good because i surf down here with a lot of wanabie guys who think they are the best and have the best equipment. They are turning up to the race track in a V8 super car, while we turn up in a F1, no competition. I am sure that anyboady who rides your boards feels the same.
I have got alot of interest in stealth so have been telling people to go to your website and have a look or to give you a call to disscuss your designs. But i noticed peole are a little apprehensive to the flex tail design, they see you concave bottom shape and are amazed, Iam just telling them that they need to surf one to really feel the benefits of the design, its the best longboard in the world is my comment to them and i stand by that.

Subject: RE: New Gun
Thanks Mitchell looks good the 8'6" gun you built for me went just divinely in the August swell in Bali - 10'+ at outside corner [I was by myself for a couple of hours] and 10'+ at Impossibles on a super high tide. The Impossibles session was particularly sensational. The right hand rail was delicately gripping the massive faces as the board swooped thru top turns with an arc of about 80m. It was a really wonderful and unusual feeling to be riding the right rail for such a long time while going left. People on the cliff were waxing lyrical later about how it was like watching a classic surf film because the turns were so long and so sweeping. Well done Mitchell.

Subject: Outer Island surfboards
|
I am what as known as a life time surfer and surf the west coast of Victoria in and around the Bells Beach surfing reserve.I have been interested in surfboard design for many years and have collected a wide range of quality boards from the modern day masters, principally in the 8' -9' range.
I first heard of outer island surfboards when I responded to an add from a collector selling his extensive quiver, 80 boards in total. Upon inspecting all the boards, I had eyes for only one,a little 7'6 mini mal. It had a nice outline, was well balanced and had very interesting concaves. When I enquired as to its purchase price,I was told that the board was not for sale. Why not I asked, his reply was simple, it is an outer island surfboard, once you own an outer island surfboard you keep them forever,it is only here for display purposes.Outer Island, never heard of the brand. I really liked the board so I pushed the point, come on, it must be for sale, how much, but he would not sell it, so I left empty handed.
A couple of years later I read an article about outer island surfboards and remembering the collectors response rang an ordered an 8'6'' flex tail, super mal, didn't know what to expect, wondered if the flex tail was gimmick. Well the board arrived, it was a work of art with a performance to match. Smooth effortless turning and you could really feel the energy stored in the flex tail when you pushed the board.I was so impressed that I sold two of my other boards and ordered a 9' flex tail stealth. What a surfboard, if it is small it glides like a more tradition shape, if there is any size, it out performs any of the top end performance mals I have ridden.
I have just sold the rest of my boards and purchased an 8'2'' stealth to complete the flex tail set. As with the other boards, the finish and attention to detail are only matched by the boards performance.
If you want to ride something special ring Mitchell at outer island
A very satisfied customer

Morning Mitchell,
hope all is well with you. I just thought I would let you know that I took the smart board out yesterday in 3 -4ft beachies. the board went really well given the conditions. the waves were not breaking all that well and mostly closing out. however, on the waves that did break all the way through, the board was really quick off
the bottom and I was just racing through each section on every turn. I loved it! I found it really easy to paddle into the waves and duck dive. so far so good. I am really glad I did go for the smart board. I love the speed and its so easy to turn.
cheers,
Caroline |
