The V2 is a revolutionary approach to controlling the overall flex pattern of a surfboard. Over 30 years of research and development with flex has lead to this design. The best board has flex from the back and stiffness / rigidity under the front foot.
Stringerless boards are flexy, but the flex pattern is is uncontrolled. Conventional stringers stiffen the overall board. By placing the stringers in a Vee shape, the flex pattern is controlled. It also places the stringers down the ‘drivelines’ of the shape.
It puts the flex where you want it…in the tail section, and stiffens the board through the forward section.
They feel sensitive and alive under foot, and deliver a burst of drive (reflex) out of the turns. Like a full flex tail, it bends in the turn to give tighter arcs and greater hold on the wave. Far less labour intensive than our full flex tail, it brings flex construction to a competitive price, affordable by everyone.
The concept works equally effectively right through the size range, from shortboards, through mid length to longboards.
Mitchell,
wanted to drop you a line to congratulate you on your new V2 tail design. The 8’’ super mal performs brilliantly. I have taken the board out in some solid Victorian juice and the board was very positive under foot with outer island’s trade mark speed. Is it as good as my full flex tail?.... pretty dam close. Thanks again, your boards are a breath of fresh air.
Regards
Stephen
Hi Mitchell,
Just got back from a trip to Telo Islands West Sumatra. The two V2 boards went unreal. The 6’4 swallow quad fish was exceptional. I was able to ride it comfortably up to a solid 5 feet range. It was very fast, had heaps of drive off the bottom, was loose off the top yet would hold nicely without losing speed through roundhouse turns. It had a release point where it would eventually release and slide but this was controllable and fun. Another buddy from Margaret River had a go on it as well and loved it - and he is pretty keen to order something similar a little longer. I creased it pretty bad near the nose with a ripple of about 5 small creases – so the V2 stringer definitely saved the board from snapping and the deck was intact and I was able to carry out repairs and continue riding the board the whole trip. I am keen to go 2 inches shorter, wider with little more volume for micro days. Also keen to try one stretched out to around 6’6 as I think this could become my standard short board if it can handle the colder water reef breaks at Rottnest. I think with a little tweaking you could get boards that have that magic carpet feel. I hope you have a template of the board you made me as I will need more of those. The 6’6 rounded pin went really good too. It preferred more hollow waves that were down the line. Both boards copped a hammering of many waves. The 6’4 quad had a few 4 hour sessions where I lost count at over 60 waves in the session.
All in all two of the best boards I have ridden. And I would say the quad is the best board I have ever had to ride 3-5 feet clean waves. Will talk with you soon and I will chase down some pics.
Best regards
