SUPER MAL

SUPER MAL

I have been refining and evolving the Supermal since the mid 1980’s. One constant though has been smooth low central rocker with a slightly accelerated nose tweak and progressive tail curve for built in performance. The supermal is a mid length board ranging between 7 and eight feet plus. It is designed to carve in beachies, point and reef breaks. It is offered with a variety of bottom contours from single concave, to a vee/ double concave combination.

It is able to be surfed like a short board, yet has the smooth glide, forward trim and paddle power of a mal. All supermal variants enjoy a refined rail with a subtle tucked edge and chine. This produces a board that offers with for ease of entry and forward area, but surfs like a narrower, shorter board.

I have surfed and shaped for well over 50 years, I can attest this is of my all time favourite designs. It’s an essential board in my and many of my customers’ quivers. It’s a fantastic one board option for travel which can easily be surfed in average waves, but will truly come alive when the swell turns up. I have taken mine to Bali and Sumatra, ridden it in waist-high to well overhead conditions and it has never let me down. My favourite configuration is the V2 Flex Quad.

Fin configurations recommended: Most popular is tri fin. My favourite is quad.

They are very good as single and 1 +2. It comes down to personal taste.
